Edvard Hagerup Bull is one of Norway's strongest musical voices. With a family line that links him directly to Edvard Grieg and Ole Bull, he seemed always destined to become a powerful force in Nordic music. This album was recorded live on two separate concerts in 2001 and 2002. The performances have a dangerous edge to them, completely in keeping with the spirit of the composer. Both his early and mature styles are represented with authoritative performances of the two duos for violin and piano and the hair-raising piano trio, as well as two important works for chamber orchestra: The Epilogue (written as a protest against the Berlin Wall) and the deeply charming Cassation.
