ホルスト：組曲『惑星』
パーヴォ・ヤルヴィ＆シンシナティ交響楽団

最近は発表するすべての作品が高水準といわれるパーヴォ・ヤルヴィ。大編成作品はシンシナティ交響楽団とのテラーク・レーベルへの一連の録音のほか、フランクフルト放送響や、エストニア国立響などと録音しており、中規模作品ではドイツ・カンマーフィルハーモニーと良い作品を残してきました。
　今回登場するのは、ホルストの『惑星』ということで、イギリス音楽ではありますが、ヴィルトゥオジティの求められる作品ということもあってか、高性能なシンシナティ交響楽団が相手に選ばれています。
　組み合わせは、同じくイギリスの作曲家ブリテンによる『青少年のための管弦楽入門』ですが、これは以前、エルガーの『エニグマ変奏曲』とのカップリングですでに発売されていたものの転用となります。

何かが違う、曲と指揮者、オーケストラの間に埋まらない溝がある。テラークの録音もなんだか靄がかかったような音で感心しませんでした。

パーヴォ・ヤルヴィの勢いはとどまるところを知らない。音楽業界の世界的な不況の下で、ＣＤの新譜が殆ど発売されない事態に陥っているが、そのような中で、気を吐いている指揮者の最右翼が、このパーヴォ・ヤルヴィということになるだろう。もちろん、粗製乱造はなはだ困るが、パーヴォ・ヤルヴィの場合は心配ご無用。凡演になることは殆どなく、常に一定の水準以上の演奏を行っているというのは、パーヴォ・ヤルヴィの類まれなる資質をあらわしていると言える。本盤は、そうしたパーヴォ・ヤルヴィの類稀なる才能が発揮された名演だと思う。惑星は、緩急自在のテンポ設定の下、重厚さや繊細さなどを織り交ぜた手練手管を行っているが、それでいて小賢しさは皆無。正に聴かせどころのツボを心得た職人芸のなせる技とも言うべきであり、我々が惑星という楽曲に求める魅力を存分に味わうことができる名演と高く評価したい。パーセルの主題による変更曲とフーガも、各変奏の描き分けが実に巧みであり、音の強弱やテンポ設定なども絶妙。フーガの終結部の盛り上がりも圧倒的な迫力であり、作曲者による自作自演盤にも匹敵する超名演と評価したい。録音もテラークならではの鮮明なものであるが、一つだけ不満を一言。テラークはＳＡＣＤから撤退したのであろうか。本盤がＳＡＣＤならば、本名演が一段と輝くことになったのにと思うと、少々残念な気がした。

飛ぶ鳥を落す勢いのP.ヤルヴィの又またレパートリー増やしのCDリリースで今回は既発2006年録音のブリテンのものと2008年収録分今回初のホルスト「惑星」であり後者が注目される処となりましょう。ヤルヴィのオーケストラ使い分けの一例盤でもありますね。演奏は性能向上著しいシンシナティ交響楽団の色彩感チェックにどうしても重点を置いて聴きましたが、そのサウンドはプロコフィエフの交響曲のようにはピッタリマッチしていたかと言うと必ずしも・・・。さてタイム的には火星から順番に6’58,9’31,3’56,8’01,10’00,5’55,7’55となっており金星、土星が幾分長めになっております。有名な木星は大構えにせず淡々と運んでおりますがとにかく「宇宙」という神秘性を全体にもう少し打ち出して欲しい・・・少し現実感あるアメリカ製らしさが・・・・実はその辺りが本当はミソなのでしょうがそこまで私には今回捉える能力が無く・・・そのデリケートでシャープなサウンドの中に見え隠れしたように聴きました。個人的好みから当面OKランクとさせて下さい。
