Band Aid復活！

80年代のイギリスを代表するスターが一同に会したチャリティ・プロジェクト「Band Aid」が復活！

1984年、エチオピア飢餓の救援資金を募るためにBoomtown RatsのBob Geldofの提唱によって実現したプロジェクト「Band Aid」にはPaul McCartney、Bono (U2)、Phil Collins、David Bowie、George Michael、Sting、Paul Weller、Boy George、Duran Duranなどなど当時のイギリスを代表するアーティストが一同に参加しました。「Do They Know It's Christmas？」を大ヒットさせ、500万ドルの義援金を集めることに成功。そればかりかエチオピアの独裁政権に対して静観していた西側諸国を積極的に救済する方向に転換させるきっかけとなりました。

･･･そしてあれから20年、遂に「Band Aid」が復活します！
11月29日、イギリスとアメリカにてシングル「Do They Know It's Christmas？」がBand Aid 20という名義で発売されます！
今回は、U2のBonoを筆頭にColdplayのChris Martin、Paul McCartney、Robbie Williams、DarknessのJustin Hawkins、Didoらが参加。噂になっていたOasisのNoel GallagherとBlurのDamon Albarnは結局レコーディングには参加しなかった模様。RadioheadのThom Yorkeの歌ったパートも結局不採用に終わったようです。ですがDamon Albarn（楽屋訪問の姿）、Thom Yorke（ピアノを弾いている）の姿はヴィデオ・クリップで確認ができますよ。
プロデュースはRadioheadでお馴染みのNigel Godrichが担当。シングル「Do They Know It's Christmas？」にはこのメンバーでレコーディングされた2004年ヴァージョンと1984年のオリジナル・ヴァージョンの2曲が収録されるようです。

今回のシングルによる収益金は、エチオピアとスーダンの難民基金に送られる予定。

『Live Aid』のDVD化もあり、今年のクリスマスと年末は「Do They Know It's Christmas？」が世界中で響き渡ることになりそうですね。
※旧Band Aidのドキュメンタリー・フィルムのDVDは発売延期未定となってしまいました…
