その歌声は、他のジャズ・ヴォーカルの歌手達とは異なり、時代を追って変化しつつも、どんな一片の歌声さえ彼女の人生を感じさせ、人間の悲しみや苦しみを彼女の体を通して表現した、まさに“神が使わしたディーヴァ”だった。少なくともジャズの歴史の中で、彼女ほど人生を感じさえ、人生について聴く者に考えさせる歌手は、いまのところ現われていない。
