Product Description

Finnish conductor Paavo Berglund, who passed away in January 2012, was one of the last remaining conductors with a direct personal connection to Sibelius. Although Berglund recorded the complete Sibelius symphonies 3 times over, his live recordings generate interest and listener engagement that no studio recordings could ever capture. Berglund's Sibelius legacy is further cemented in these live concert recordings with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, in which he vividly captures the natural flight of the Fifth Symphony and the free fall journey of the Sixth.

交響曲の醍醐味がここにある　凡ての音形・フレーズが明瞭に浮き出てくる　立体構造がすっくと立ち上がっても重くない　透明な風に乗って全方向内から外から眺められる開放感を感じる　蒼天の下に広がるスオミの全景が見渡せる　シベリウスとはかくも伸びやかな音楽だったとは改めて感動を新たにした　SACDでないことに落胆していたがこの美しさに不興も霧消した　美しい演奏は巧まずして真実を言い当てる　第５番からはシベリウスが故国の自然美を賛嘆して止まなかったこと　第６番からは同胞へ向けられた友愛の情が溢れ出して止まらない　シベリウスも悲しみを纏わずに世を渡ってこれなかったが　それでもいつか呪いが解けることを信じて今日も夢幻の湖水を滑っていく　白鳥のように　もう聞き飽きたなどと言わず耳傾けられることを願う
