    映画アマデウスでは悪役として描かれたサリエリ。勿論、本書ではそのような通説などは関係ない。サリエリ幼少時代から青年時代、あれよあれよと宮廷楽長に上り詰めるさま、そして宮廷楽長ゆえの苦労の逸話などが載っていて楽しめる。 モーツアルトは「自分の作品がなかなか上演されないのはサリエリの陰謀があったからだ」と、しばしば語っているが、本書を読むと、それが意図的ではなく、当時の状況から、やむを得ず延期されていた事が分かるはずだ。
