In the 1960s French film director Claude Lelouch brought the stylistic innovations of the New Wave to a series of conventional love stories. His biggest hit was A Man And A Woman, a film scored by Michel Legrand whose songs form the basis of this collection of covers by the French chanteuse Patricia Kaas. Piano Bar is intended to be both a homage to 'LeLouch' and an unofficial soundtrack to his most recent film And Now... Ladies And Gentlemen starring Jeremy Irons and the lady herself. Kaas has a considerable following on the continent where her seductive voice and alluring arrangements of jazz-tinged tunes provide the perfect background for intimate romantic encounters. Here she brings a soft-focus, smoky Parisian cafŽ atmosphere to standards made famous by Sinatra, Streisand and even Tiger Bay's own Shirley Bassey. There is even a nod to Bassey's recent album of remixes in the form of a techno version of If You Go Away. So if you're planning a tete-a-tete in the near future youmight care to add this to the list along with a dozen red roses and a bottle of bubbly.

良い！とてもいい！古きスタンダードナンバーを見事に彼女の世界に引きこんでいる。ただ唯一残念なのは、大半の曲が英語で歌われていること。彼女にはやはりフランス語がよく似合う。
