John Cage may be known as part of the rebellious avant-garde, but he also wrote several pieces for the traditional combination of violin and piano. One disc of this album is devoted to this complete part of Cage's output. The recording also includes all of Cage's songs, featuring works based on texts by E.E. Cummings and James Joyce. Also included are a couple of pieces of ballet music. These are important new recordings made in Italy featuring young singer Lorna Windsor accompanying David and Giancarlo Simonacci.
