1967年にキャピトル・レコードから2枚目のアルバムとして録音、リリースされたアルバムが180g重量盤LPで登場。

■エラ・フィッツジェラルドが伝統的な賛美歌のみに焦点を当てたもので、1960年代前半にVerveからリリースされたアルバム『Swinging Christmas』とはまったく対照的な作品。アレンジャーのロバート・ブラックとグレース・プライス、指揮者のラルフ・カーマイケルとそのオーケストラと協力し、フィッツジェラルドは「さやかに星はきらめき」、「神の御子は今宵しも」、「もろびとこぞりて」、「天には栄え」などの名曲に没頭した。これらの曲は、ほとんどの人にとっておなじみのものだが、エラは、その芸術性によって、曲の本質はそのままに、新鮮な光の中でそれらを表現している。
