カラヤンは、ドン・キホーテを三度録音している。この盤は一番古い1965年の録音であるがSACD化により高音質化され一番のお勧めである。 最新盤(1986年録音)は、録音に潤いや張りがない上チェロがイマイチ。1974年盤は、SACD化により高音質に蘇り更にロストロポーヴィチのチェロは 最高であるがビオラがイマイチ。この盤は、指揮、オケ、VC,Vaすべて安定し音が綺麗な上うまい。録音面でもDGのマスターがよくSACD化により大音量でも問題なく聞ける。大変魅力的な名盤である。
