すごいです。一言で言うなら変わったベート...

すごいです。一言で言うなら変わったベートーヴェンです。特に、ノリノリの交響曲第7番を、どうしてこんなに暗く演奏できるのか、驚きです。第9番も、歓喜の歌という感じではありません。好悪はともかく、星の数ほどあるベートーヴェンの交響曲全集の中でも異色のものだと思います。

ケーゲルなので何か普通で無い物を期待したが、演奏は一聴オーソドックスで普通に聴こえます。しかし聴きこむ内に他の演奏には無い感情の無い冷たさ、寂寥感、孤独感を感じます。やはりケーゲルはただ物ではなかった。

ケーゲルが活動した時期は、カラヤンが話題を独り占めにした時期と重なる。「猫も杓子も」カラヤン一辺倒であった。東ドイツで活躍したザンデルリンクなど知る由もなかった。 ケーゲルも同様であった。バルビローリ、クレンペラーに始まるオーケストラ演奏の系譜はカラヤンに引き継がれることなく、閉鎖された東ドイツでケーゲル、ザンデルリンクなどに引き継がれた。カラヤンを聞き慣れたヨーロッパの東のはずれ日本では、カラヤンの演奏がスタンダードなベートーヴェンの交響曲となった。総譜を見ることなく、聞き慣れたカラヤンが一番だと思っている人にとって、ケーゲルの演奏は物足りなく聴こえるであろう。 ベートーヴェンの総譜に忠実なケーゲルの演奏は、これがベートーヴェンであると伝えてくれる。ブルーレイオーディオで発売されたベートーヴェンはとても貴重なソースである。値段もカラヤンの半分以下である。古い録音にしてはディテールがよく録音されており、特に木管と弦楽器のバランスは絶妙である。
