ここまでdeep&darkに徹したｺｽﾃﾛは初めてだ。重い物をひきずるようなｱﾚﾝｼﾞ、声もいつになくｴｯｼﾞが効いている。ﾌﾗﾝｽ人に受けそうな音だ。しかしこれもｺｽﾃﾛという多面体のほんの一面。その引き出しの多さが新たなﾌｧﾝを獲得する一方、従来のﾌｧﾝを失望、落胆させてきたりもした。しかしまだまだ玉座に鎮座し、裸の王様になりつつある何人かの某大物ｱｰﾃｨｽﾄのようにはならない事を確信できる作品

これが出る前コステロは、ベックのようなアルバム作りをしてみたい、と言っていた 〜それが次第発展し、顔馴染みが追加されていったと想像がつく 〜そこで今までにない人選をしていたら、この微妙に異色なアルバムを、きっと何倍も面白いものにしたに違い無い。ウィルリー(b)、スティーヴジョーダン(ds)、ビルフリゼール(g)、スティーヴナイーヴ(key)...なんて思い描くだけでわくわくしてクル。

◆いつまでも初期の形を求める◆「She」以降のバラードに涙する‥‥だけの聴き手の不幸が、今更ながらCOSTELLOに覆い被さって在る(なんてこッたい)。この衰えを知らない好奇心(エチオピア音楽まで含)、増々豊かになる表現力は今や比較する者がいないELVIS COSTELLO。エレクトリックポップ色が濃いアルバムで、後半楽曲的・色彩的不釣合いも感じられるのが惜しい、「Brutal Youth」位には良い作品。EC＆インポスターズはこの後〜現在がヨリ聴く価値有リ
