田園はガーディナーの全集中でもとりわけ素晴らしい出来だと思います。ワルターやフルトヴェングラー、ベームのＮＨＫホールライブなども自分は好きですが、この演奏に出会えて本当によかったと思う。

ぶ厚い現代楽器のオーケストラの「運命、田園」に慣れた耳には、ガーディナー指揮の古楽器オケによる演奏は新鮮に響くはずだ。際立つのは「田園」で、透明な弦の響きは、まさに田園の風であり、小川の澄んだ水であり、木々の緑である。柔らかな木管は、まさしく鳥の歌声、明るい笑い声だ。金管の鋭い響きは、稲妻そのものである。幸福感と自然の美しさをたたえる気持ちにあふれた最終楽章、魅力に尽きない演奏である。
