オハイオ州出身、現在28歳。John Legendことジョン・スティーブンスは、 あのトップ・プロデューサーKanye Westのバックアップのもと、メジャーデビューを果たし、瞬く間に1stアルバム「Get Lifted」が大ヒットを記録、たった1年で大スターの仲間入りを果たしたR&Bアーティスト。
16歳の頃、学校に通うためにフィラデルフィアに移住し、卒業後も音楽活動を続け、Jill ScottやThe Roots、Musiq、Jahem、Amel LarrieuxGlen Lewisなどなど交友関係を拡げていく。ある日、彼にチャンスが舞い込んで来る。Kanye Westの従兄弟だった友人を通してKanyeと知り合い仕事をするようになる。 その歌唱力と作詞･作曲能力、そしてピアニストとしての才能が認められ、 Kanyeの「College Dropout」に参加後、オファーが殺到。

さらにJohn Legendが過去クレジットに名を連ねたのは、Lauryn Hill（"Everything is Everything"）、Alicia Keys（"You Don't Know My Name"など）、Jay-Z（"Encore"、"Lucifer"）、Janet Jackson（"I Want You"）、Black Eyed Peas（"The Boogie That B"）、Mary J. Blige、Britney Spears、Eve、Common....と、超ビックなアーティストばかり！
待望のメジャー・デビュー・アルバム！
鳴り物入りでリリースした デビューシングル"Used to Love U"（プロモ・クリップにはKanye Westも出演）は大ヒットを記録。 待望のメジャー・ファースト・アルバム「Get Lifted」はブートが出回るほどの話題になるほど。近年稀に見る素晴らしいシンガーの登場にアメリカ本国はもちろん、日本でも大ブレイクを果たし5月には来日公演も実現。
そして2006年に行われた第48回グラミー賞で見事3部門受賞（Best R&B Album とBest Male Vocal Performance、 Best New Artist ）。その後も客演のオファーは絶えず、所属レーベルのG.O.O.D.のアーティスト作品や、 Jagged Edge、Sergio Mendesの「Timeless」などに参加。また、Black Eyed Peasの紅一点Fergieの作品に1曲提供、話題を呼びました。
そして同年10月、満を持してセカンド･アルバム「Once Again」を発表。 ファーストよりもさらにソウルフルでダイナミック、そしてジャンルレスなプロダクションを展開することにより、幅広いリスナーに訴えかける作品となりました。そして、 アルバムからは冒頭を飾る"Save Room"や"Heaven"といったシングルがスマッシュヒットを記録。
2007年には待望の再来日。初の全国ツアーを行いました。また同時期に、海外では既にリリースされていた05年8月にLos AngelesのHouse Of Bluesで行われたショーケースの模様を収録したライヴDVD 「Live At The House Of Blues」
が国内盤化。アルバムと共にヒット商品となっています。

・「Once Again」
