Another classic recording from what must be the most remarkable period in the history of opera on record. In the 1950s, EMI embarked upon a series of recording projects that today seem incredible given the costs involved. That many of these recordings are still to be surpassed is a tribute to the label's A&R team, and the producer of many of the recordings, the legendary Walter Legge.

The recording of Rigoletto dates from 1955, and was recorded in association with La Scala. Once again, the cast is an unbeatable line-up - Serafin, Callas, Gobbi and di Stefano is as good as it gets, and once again the critics ever since have held this recording as the one to measure all others against.
