カラヤンのベルリンでの最後のコンサートとなった1988年のジルベスター・コンサートと、その直前に収録されたセッションによるチャイコフスキーのピアノ協奏曲は、最晩年の時期にあった80歳のカラヤンと若干17歳のキーシンが共演した歴史的名盤です。この録音はカラヤンの最後の録音の1つとなり、このリリースを待たずしてカラヤンは天に召されました。
カップリングのスクリャービン：≪4つの小品≫は、キーシン唯一の録音となる貴重な音源です。
