フレミングの元帥夫人｢引退｣公演の録画。陰影を付けようと力むあまり歌の美観を欠く箇所もなくはないが(たとえば終幕三重唱の冒頭など)、全体としてはさすがの貫祿。声の衰えをさほど気にする必要のない役なのも彼女に幸いしている。役柄の作り方は古風なものだが、ショヴァルツコップ・コピーもここまで堂に入ればご立派だ。同じく、これでこの役は｢卒業｣だというガランチャのオクタヴィアンは大変素晴らしい。男装姿もりりしいし、女装してオックス男爵を翻弄する第3幕も鮮やかな出来ばえ。グロイスベックのオックスは相変わらず見事。類型的な三枚目ではなく貴族的かつスタイリッシュな演唱だが、すこぶる魅力的。エーデルマン以下、私の知る限りでは最高のオックス男爵と言って差し支えない。モーリーのゾフィーはそもそも若い娘に見えないし、気の強さはうかがえるが、新鮮さがないのが残念。欲を言えば「もう一皮｣むけてほしいヴァイグレの指揮はいつも通り手堅い。 カーセンの演出は基本的には2004年ザルツブルク版通りだが、第3幕の舞台は同じく娼館の一室ながら、全裸の男女の登場は無く、保守的なメトの観客に配慮したようだ。幕切れに登場してくる｢元帥｣率いる兵士の一団は元のままだが、カメラが｢引き｣気味であることも手伝って、かつてほどのインパクトはない。カーセン演出のなかではもともとそんなに過激なものではないと思っていたが、今や立派に｢クラシック｣の枠組みにおさまった。それでもヴェルニケ、クプファーと並んで時代を20世紀初頭に移したものでは代表的な名演出だと思うけど。
