Mozart’s piano music includes fifteen sets of Variations. Most of them are seldom performed, and they are often forgotten, but they provided the composer with an ideal opportunity to give free reign to his imagination. The stake for the pianist lies in here: developing the possibilities of each hand, and also expressing everything that a given theme can contain from the melodic and rhythmic point of view.
The subtle sonorities of the Steinway and the delicacy of Danielle Laval’s play let show through the real charm of these scores and, for some, a naive romance (eight variations on "Come un agnello"), humour (twelve variations on "Je suis Lindor") or a subtle melancholy (twelve variations on "La Belle Françoise").
