５thアルバム『Houses of the Holy (聖なる館)』リリース直前となるレッド・ツェッペリン 1973年１月22日イギリス南部サウサンプトンにあるサウサンプトン大学の学内ホールでのライヴを収録。もともとオフィシャルライヴアルバム『永遠の詩 (狂熱のライヴ)』用の音源候補にもなっていたこともあり、コレクターには古くから知られている公演。

ロバート・プラントのヴォーカルこそ本調子ではないものの、アンコールで久々に披露された「How Many More Times」やジョン・ポール・ジョーンズによるメロトロンが使用された「Thank You」、怒涛のメドレーによる「Whole Lotta Love」など、レアなセットリストも聴きどころ。

音いいですね、まともなステレオ。演奏もまだ衰えが来てない。「永遠の詩」と同時期、編集しない一発録りのライヴ、こういうのってジミー・ペイジが大嫌いなブートレッグなのですか？聴く方は楽しめるが権利とかどうなっているのでしょう？ＨＭＶが売っているのだから、ちゃんとした品物だと思いますが。こういうものがＣＤで普通に楽しめるとは一般リスナーにとっては素直に喜ぶべきことなのかな。ＯＬＤファンも現代のロック少年も入手できるうちに買った方がよいかも。

この手のCDの中ではかなり良い音である。演奏も充実しており丁寧に演奏している。ファンなら是非持っていたい。当日ラジオで聴けた人が羨ましい。
