Bruckners Sixth is one of his most genial symphonies, inhabiting a world not too distant from the symphonies of Schubert, Dvork and even Beethovens Pastoral. In the words of the composer, this fetchingly melodic symphony is one he considered his cheekiest (die Keckste). This release completes conductor Gerd Schaller and his Philharmonie Festivas Bruckner cycle, performed in the context of the Ebrach Summer of Music (Ebracher Musiksommer), a cycle often exploring unusual and in some cases unperformed variants of the symphonies, many in editions by Professor William Carragan.

オリジナル譜しか存在しない”第６交響曲”は誰が演奏しても安心して聴ける　実はこれがブルックナー交響曲様式の典型だ　しかも完璧な筆致によって他者の私的解釈を許さない　だからどの演奏も演奏時間にズレがない　54〜59分に必ず収まる　これはブルックナーの交響曲では稀有なことだ　ところが継子扱いを受けてきた交響曲でもある　演奏頻度・録音共に最も少ないと言っていい　この完全性が改竄あるいは私的解釈で作り上げた似非ブルックナー像”を掲げて音楽商売をするのに都合が悪いか自己矛盾に陥るから　本家本元を”ブルックナーらしくない”などと誹謗して白々しい　聴けばわかる　本当にいい音楽だ　これ一曲で音楽史にブルックナーの名は刻まれて然るべきだ　ブルックナーと対話できて彼を愛する者には　この第６交響曲こそ掛け替えのない宝珠であり続けている　わたしたちが一番よく聞くブルックナー音楽を　あなたも如何
