ブルックナーは一時凝っていた時期があり、他にヨッフムのWarner・DG、ヴァント、カラヤン(全集)、クレンペラー、クーベリック、インバルなどのCD所有しているが、それぞれ個性的で素晴らしいが個人的にはブルックナーに宗教音楽的な重厚感を求めるのであればチェリビダッケのこちらのボックスセットは最右翼であろう。ハマると他にはないカタルシスに浸ることができる。

最近はチェリビダッケを何枚もずっと聞いているのですが、すぐに「遅い」と言われますし私もそう思い込んでいましたが、さほどでもないですしそんなことはあまり重要では無いと気付きましたね。それよりもその手段によって新たな素晴らしい響きの芸術に昇華され、違和感は全く消え去りたいへんな充実感が得られます。曲全体を見通す感覚も優れていると思います。

　おそらくチェリビダッケは、音楽の背後の「思想」や「精神論」等のあやふやな「もの」には興味はないと思う。彼は、「プロ」として、徹底的におのれの仕事を、「音」を磨き上げる。音楽が、結局「自己」をさらけ出すことならば、そのための「方法」を徹底的に磨き上げる。「プロ」として。しかしそれは真逆の結果をもたらす。結論として、われわれ、いや、わたしは彼の「音楽」に果てしなく「巨大な」「知識」を聞く。もちろん彼は特別な「耳」を持っているのだけれど、それ以上に、自己の「仕事」への「厳しさ」、「プロ」とは「どうあるべきか」という意識。いずれも現代、特に日本においては過去のものになりつつあるものだと思う。だがまだわたしにはそれを確認することのできる手段がある。老哲学者の独り言です。
