ウィーン・フィルの音はやはり特別だと感じることがある。音色そのものに聴くものを惹きつける力があると言ってもいい。ウィーン・フィルは、そのときどきの演奏によっては“美音の垂れ流し”ということもあるのだが、ここではそういった音は聴かれず、確かな実感ある演奏を聴くことができる。アーノンクールの指揮は曲の流れに乗って押し切るというよりは各楽器の響きを大切にする趣きで、好きな人には好きなタイプだろう。また、過度な表情付けがなされていないのも良い。旋律と楽器固有の音色で十分なほど曲が生きている。

その後の第8,9,5と聴いてくるとこの第7は曲自体の性格のためか比較的穏やか。出た当時深夜帰宅する際TAXIの車内でこれをよく聴いていた。羽田のﾌﾞﾙｰﾗﾝﾌﾟのあたりに伸びやかな旋律が重なって疲れが癒されたものである。同時代のﾌﾞﾙｯｸﾅｰ指揮者をずっとfollowし続けていこうとは思っている。ｶﾗﾔﾝですらﾌﾞﾙｯｸﾅｰ指揮者として懐疑的な向きの多いこの国では賛否両論あるだろうけど。

VPOの音はきれいであるが、アーノンクールのモーツアルトほどは楽しめない。ブルックナーも３番は楽しめたが、７、８番は退屈してしまう。
