まずは静かなで親密な語らいから始まります。音と感興は次第に振幅を増し、第3番、スケルツォに至って内面の吐露へとなります。決して聴くものを楽しませる音楽ではありません。コンサートホールで聴くようなあちらから積極的に語りかけてくるものでもありません。しかしこちらからその世界に入っていくと、そこにはブラームスの小宇宙があります。内省をするものにとって親しい感覚です。ピリスの旧盤も素晴らしい演奏でしたが、老いを感じる身にとってはより切実に感じるものがあります。室内楽の楽しみのひとつの頂点と思います。

ピリスとの旧盤が、美音と思い切った表現で、大変な名盤でした。私見では、この曲のベスト１でした。そこで大いに期待して購入しました。基本的な解釈は変わっていないと感じましたが、演奏にエネルギーがなくなったというのか、落ち着きを増したというのか。とにかく変わったことは確か。わたしは演奏に勢いのある旧盤のほうが好みです
