交響曲的な色彩を色濃く持つブラームスのピアノ協奏曲第２番は、非常に重厚で技巧的に至難な部分も多い作品ですが、現代のピアニストにとって大切なレパートリーのひとつになっています。今は亡き名ピアニストのギレリスと名指揮者ヨッフムががっぷりと四つに組んだ演奏で、ギレリスの協奏曲録音のなかで最も重要な位置を占める名盤の誉れ高い録音です。ヨッフムとベルリン・フィルハーモニーのドイツ的な響きも聴きものです。
