Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, Paris
Igor Markevitch, conductor

Recorded 1958

Igor Markevitch has been one of the most charming and well-respected conductors of the second half of the 20th century.
Although his well education and his refinement made him also an extraordinary interpreter of Beethoven, his international reputation has been penalised by a very limited discography of his interpretations.
For this reason the present recording will be very significant and useful to the music lover who desire to deepen the knowledge of this striking personality.
The CD collects 6 Beethoven Ouvertures recorded during the year 1958 when Markevitch was leading the Parisian Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux.
Markevitch’s interpretation of Beethoven is to this day still surprising for its absolute modernity, for its pressing incisiveness of rhytmics and for its total lack of rhetoric.
It is a memorable experience of listening a conductor who was widely ahead of the times. ( Dynamic )
