カラヤン指揮によるベートーヴェンの第９交響曲は、映像作品を含めると計８回収録されました。ここに収めた演奏は通算４回目となった最後の交響曲全集からのもので、ベルリン・フィルハーモニーを指揮した1983年の録音です。ベートーヴェン畢生のこの大作で、カラヤンはオーケストラの機能を最大限に発揮させた、端正ながらも力感溢れる壮大な表現を聴かせています。
