　DGの廉価版ヘリオドールのLPで３０年ばかり聴いてきた演奏。 　それに比べるとグルダのピアノがやや硬質な響きになっているCDだが、 粒立ちのよいピアノに触発されたフルニエの表情がわかるような、瑞々しい もの。 　古今の演奏のなかでも、ひときわ輝くような雰囲気をもつ個性がすばらしい。

ベートーヴェンのチェロソナタは１０種類ほど持っていますが、この演奏が一番好きです。ロストロ盤、ケンプ盤より断然こちら。 フルニエは端正な中に情熱を奏で、方やグルダは表情豊かで際だって美しい。両者、呼吸もぴったりで、情緒豊かで雄弁です。 ３番の冒頭を聴いてみても分かります。 私の理想のチェロソナタです。

ところどころピアノが走りすぎてチェロがあわせてやっている。グルダのピアノはソロとしては美しいが掛け合いはいまいち。フルニエの懐の大きいチェロはさすがで、聞いていてただ感心するばかり。対話的な掛け合いとしては後年のケンプとの録音が素晴らしい。ただソロとしてのフルニエはこのときが一番美しく、どちらを優劣とするか悩ましい。いや、ふたつの記録が残されていることは、悩ましいほどの幸福だ。とにかくフルニエのチェロは美しかった。
