本作『THE SINGLES 1985-2014 + Rarities』は、その名の通り、マイク＆ザ・メカニックスがこれまで発表してきたシングルにレア音源を加えたCD2枚組コンピレーションである。バンドの結成25周年を記念してリリースされた本作には、全米1位、全英2位となった「Living Years」、全米5位「All I Need Is A Miracle」、全米6位の「Silent Running」、全米TOP20の「Over My Shoulder」、「Word Of Mouth」を始めとするシングル曲や代表曲をDisc1に、そして「One By One」などの未発表曲や「Too Many Friends」、「I Think I Got The Message」などのシングルB面曲、さらにビートルズのカバーとなる「Revolution」や、「My Crime Of Passion」のアコースティック・ヴァージョンなどの”レア音源”を収録したDisc2が追加されている。
