Texas Blues Road Show

What is a Texas Blues Road Show? I don't know, it's something I made up. It came out, just like the music on my record. I will tell you a story though. When I was a young man I had some good friends and lived in Central Texas. And as good friends will do we chased good food, cheap beer and pretty girls. I don't know why else, but we would drive around Central Texas to the various small town festivals held each year. The Ennis Polka Festival, the Kerrville Folk Festival, The Chalympiad in San Marcos, the Austin River Fest, and others. There was plenty of good food, cheap beer and pretty girls. At most of these festivals there was music playing from a grand white canvas tent, like a revival style tent with a peaked white roof, rectangular sides all posted with steel and cable and large iron tent pegs. Playing inside was the up and coming, the sometimes famous, and those acts on their way out. We saw combos such as Bob Will's Original Texas Playboys, Ray Wylie Hubbard and The Cowboy Twinkies, Stevie Ray Vaughn and his brother Jimmy's Fabulous Thunderbirds, Bugs Henderson and many many others. Well, something stuck in me. And after a long long time something came of it all. LIke a pine cone sits and awaits a fire, then a seed pops out, then it grows into a great big Ponderosa pine tree. As time went by and I started playing guitar again a singing for the first time, and I started writing these songs. And now I have gathered them up and recorded them here. As you listen, think of two, or four or six young men or women sitting around eating and listening and drinking a few cold beers on a warm humid Texas night. Getting home or to someone's home and pulling out guitars and playing songs that moved us once...... into the small hours of the morning. So that's how this thing happened and that's what a Texas Blues Road Show is. A group of friends that make some music, a feeling that becomes a lick or a hook, a memory that becomes a song. A group of songs that became this record. Enjoy Somewhere out on Skyline Ranch Road..........
