Failed Ambitions

Failed Ambitions is a sonic parade of odd characters straight out of a Bukowski novel. The album kicks off with a very different take on Rush's classic Working Man, which sets the tone for songs of belligerent frustration (The One-eyed Man), urban living (Find my Sleep Again), cruel realities (This isn't Hollywood) and tongue-in-cheek contemplations (Happy Song). The closing number (Something Real) embodies the artist's dismay at today's mainstream music industry, as the character drunkenly declares just give me something real and I'll sing along. The record will appeal to those who enjoy off center songs. Banjo Bones can best be described as a troubadour that sings themes of the present in a voice of the past. The EP is reminiscent of records of the 70s, when the vinyl format dictated fewer songs, the sound was warm an imprecise and there was an underlying urgency to get to the point.
