吹奏楽による交響曲、管弦楽曲シリーズの１枚で、シベリウスの『交響曲第２番』(高橋俊雄編曲)と『カレリア』組曲(ゴールドマン＆リチャードソン編曲) を収録しています。交響曲の吹奏楽版は珍しいでしょうか。演奏は陸上自衛隊中央音楽隊、指揮は船山絋良隊長です。吹奏楽ならではの力強さと、音楽的で表情豊かな演奏、特にカレリア組曲の行進曲や交響曲の終楽章が良いです。録音・音質共に良好です。
