There are some problems with this collection. The sources are not the best. If you can, you should purchase the Berlin Classics and Music & Arts CDs. The Symphony No. 8 is from the same source as an old Tahra CD which was pitched flat. The Music & Arts CD has the correct pitch. Also, the first movement of the Symphony No. 8 is on the same CD as the Symphony No. 7, but there is no separate track for the beginning of the Symphony No. 8. The last movement of the Symphony No. 7 and the first movement of the Symphony No. 8 are both on one track.

This is the first international release of the newly prepared edition of 1888 edited by Benjamin Korstvedt. Mr. Korstvedt has convincingly shown that Bruckner reviewed and corrected the score for the first published edition. Therefore this edition should not be dismissed as a reworking by ”sincere but misguided disciples.” This is an excellent performance and recording which demonstrates how some of the first published editions are excellent representations of Bruckner’s work. Highly recommended.

This is an historic release. It pays tribute to one of the great Bruckner conductors in the first half of the twentieth century. It also represents the first complete Bruckner cycle ever recorded. This set of recordings comes directly from the Austrian Radio master tapes and they have been carefully restored. The booklet contains excellent essays and a complete list of every recording (commercial and for radio) that Andreae every made. It is a fitting tribute to a pioneering Brucknerian.
