実に英国らしく、さらに言うと、初期のドラマチックさは演歌的でもあるので日本人好みだなあ、と思います。わたしの知る範囲で、このグループの悪口を言う人は皆無です。その演歌的な世界が後退し小粒な印象を受ける作品がこれ。でも、今となっては「アーガス」みたいなアルバムが何作も作れるはずがなく、この作品のほうが彼らの本質ではなかったのか、という気がしています。ウイッシュボーン・アッシュの音は、ブルーズとの距離の取り方に絶妙さがあると思っています。ギターソロなどはブルーズそのものなんですが、英国フォークやカントリーからも彼らは影響を受けていて、けして暑苦しくなりません。特にこの作品では、終始クールな印象を受けます。ベースにハードネスがあるものの、彼らはハードロックをやりません。もうちょっと激しく演奏してくれてもいいのにな、と思いつつ、腹八分目を楽しむ心の余裕が必要です。わたしは、その中庸さが最も出ている曲が1. So Many Things To Say ではないのかと思っています。
