いろいろ賛否はあるが、やはりロック史上に残すべきライブ作品であることは間違いないと思います。RickとLevonのボーカルはThe Band以外には有り得ないし、Robbieのギターは異色だけどそれがThe Bandのスパイスとなっていたと思う。またThe Bandほどアメリカ音楽を消化して演りきっているバンドもそうはいない。サザンミュージックに留まらずサンフランシスコやシカゴのフィーリングも感じられる。ステージはThe Bnadのキャリアとしては物足りないが、#The Weight #The Shape I’m inなんかはやっぱり素直に嬉しいですね。ただゲストも気合が入っているのは伝わってきますね。 Neil Diamondのライブなんて初めて見ましたが、気迫というかとにかく凄いパフォーマーということは発見でした。やはり見所はClaptonとRobbieの掛け合いかなぁ。これだけでも買う価値はあります。ゲストが多くもう少しじっくりThe Bandが見たかったというのも本音ですが、完璧版を買わされそうな気にもなっています・・・。

なんたる地味・・・・。とこのアルバムを最初に聴いたときぼくはそう思った。当時ブルース・スプリングスティーンやTOTOなどを聴いていたのでそう思ったのかも知れない。ぼくがこのアルバムの内に秘めた心臓の鼓動音やギラギラと流れる血、漲る情熱を本当に感じたのは今から１０年ほど前のことになる。ちょうど４０歳になろうとしている頃だ。実はこの【The Band / Music From The Big Pink】はある程度年を重ねないと理解できない。もちろん１回聴いただけでは理解できるはずもなく当然何度も聴く。これを繰り返さないとザ・バンドの主張や表現が形なって見えてこないのである。このアルバムについてのボブ・ディランのことや「Big Pink」のことは専門誌などで多く語られてきたのでここでは語らない。　ただ、ストレートに深い表現であることや、一見地味に聴こえるので、「ただ無心で何度も聴く」このことがこの【The Band / Music From The Big Pink】を理解するために一番重要なことなのである。そして何かを感じ取れるようになればさらに深く聴きこむ。　そしていつかわかるときがくる。このアルバムが「モンスター・アルバム」であることを・・・。
