大好きなSTYXの作品の中でも、もっともすばらしいアルバムがこれです。Great White Hope, Renegade, I’m OKなどの傑作を上手く組み合わせて、一曲もはずれ無しのアルバム・トータル性の高い作品に仕上がっています。３人のボーカルのソロパートもコーラスパートも心地よい。インストルメンタル部分も時にはハードで、時には幻想的で、バランスよくできています。アメリカン・プログレの大傑作と思います。星５つでも足りない。

「CD2枚それぞれをvol.1, vol.2と名付ける大作」とHMVレビューに書かれてあるが、これは言いすぎで、これらは時期をずらして発表されたミニアルバムを一つのパッケージにしたものである。Disc.1は35分、Disc.2は41分なので、１枚のディスクにまとめてもらったほうがありがたかったと思う。演奏はオリジナル曲にほぼ忠実で、たいしたアレンジは見られない。デニスがいない分だけ、コーラスがちょっと変わったかなという印象を受けた。トミーとジェームスのリードボォーカル曲は本人の再現だから問題ないが、「グランド・イリュージョン」や「カム・セル・アウェイ」などデニスのリード曲をかわりに演じるローレンス・ゴーワンはたいしたものだ。デニスに似た声色で自分のものにしている。このアルバムで取り上げられたオリジナル曲は全て名作なので文句ないが、新曲の Difference in the World だけは曲調が他と大きく異なり、何だか浮いた感じがする。トミーやジェームスの初期のソロアルバムには、クラシックStyxの雰囲気漂う傑作がいくつかあったので、それらをStyxバージョンとしてregenerationしてほしかった。
