ロックのライブアルバムとして屈指の大傑作。ロックギターの王道と言うか１曲目から最高の演奏で70年台前半でイギリスのギタリスト人気投票でジミーペイジを抜いてNo.1になったロリーの代表作。何回もジャケット替えてCD売らんといて欲しいが亡くなった本人の意図ではない。ライブはみんな傑作ですがこれがイチオシ。

彼のスタジオ録音では「Blueprint」「Tattoo」と並んで人気の高い作品。バイヤーズ・ガイドには、ロリー入門としてたいてい、この3枚のうちのどれかが掲載されています。簡単に言うと4人編成の頃の代表作で、デビュー当時のルーズなブルーズが影を潜め、ボーカルもギターも性急なロックンロールを追求した作風になっています。Moonchild、Secret Agentを聴いていただくとよくわかります。また、ジャズ風な展開を見せるCalling CardとJack-Knife Beat、ラグタイムのBarley and Grape Rag、初期ハンブル・パイ風のI’ll Admit You’re Goneなど彩を見せる作品でもあります。彼の魅力はブルーズに軸足を置きながら、ヘンに本場ブルーズらしさを追い求めず、輪郭のはっきりした溌剌なギターを弾き続けたところにあります。一本のノミで仏像を彫った円空の味わいに似ていると思います。わたしが最初に手に入れたロリーのアルバムがこれなのですが、クイーン、キッス、レインボウに馴染んでいた当時は、全部がデモに聞こえてしまって困りました。今になって、余計なものをそぎ落とした音が本物だ、とか書いているのだから、いい加減なものです。ロリーを最初に聴くユーザーに申し上げたいのが、この点です。最初馴染めなくても、必ず戻ってきますので大事にしてください。プロデュースはロリーとロジャー・グローバーの共同。ロリーが依頼した、という話と、グローバーがやって来たという話と両方あって判然としません。録音はドイツです。Edged in Blue冒頭のギターは、美しくて魂が飛んでしまいます。
