Hansjorg Albrecht, composer, organist and harpsichordist, is one of the younger generation’s most versatile musicians. Born in 1972 in Freiberg/Saxony, his first musical training was as a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor. To further his musical talent, he was awarded that choir’s Rudolf Mauersberger Scholarship. In Hamburg and Cologne, Hansjorg Albrecht studied organ with Gerhard Dickel, organist at St. Michaelis, as well as with Thierry Mechler, and studied conducting with Klaus-Peter Seibel. He was an assistant organist at Hamburg’s main church St. Michaelis for seven years as well.

Hansjorg Albrecht’s repertoire ranges from works of J.S. Bach to those of the late 20th century. He has been a freelance artist since 1998.

Concerts as an organist and harpsichordist have taken him through Germany and Europe as well as to Israel, Japan and the USA. As a soloist and continuo player, he has worked with many renowned orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of St. Luke’s New York, Orchestra de la Santa Cecilia Rome, Camerata Salzburg, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and with various choirs including the Prague Chamber Choir, Copenhagen Radio Choir, Bavarian Radio Choir, Dresden Kreuzchor and Monteverdi Choir Hamburg.

Hansjorg Albrecht works with many singers and instrumentalists and has worked with such partners as Elisabeth Kulman, Matthias Eisenberg, Ramon Jaffe, Andres Mustonen and the Stamitz Quartet. He has also performed with such internationally renowned conductors as Heribert Beissel, Hartmut Haenchen, Bernhard Klee, Lev Markiz, Paul Goodwin and Andras Schiff. He has worked especially intensively for last five years with singer and conductor Peter Schreier.

Hansjorg Albrecht has been the artistic director of the Munich Bach Choir since September 2005. As a conductor he has worked with the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Bach Collegium Munich, the Munich Bach Orchestra (on historic instruments), the Hamburg Baroque Orchestra as well as the Neue Elbland Philharmonie.

In addition to live broadcasts as a soloist, e.g. in Prague (with Poulenc’s Organ Concerto) and Madrid (Organ & Percussion), his recording of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Munich Bach Choir and Bach Collegium was broadcast live from the Philharmonie in Gasteig by the Bavarian Radio Broadcasting Company.
