このアルバムをマイルスのオリジナル・タイ...

このアルバムをマイルスのオリジナル・タイトルと考えるか、Eモービーのマイルスへのオマージュと考えるかで、リスナーの評価も別れるんだと思います。私は後者だと考えて聴いてますし、レビューの星もEモービーのアルバムに対してのものです。 マイルスを最高のマテリアルと持ち上げず、サウンドの1構成要素と引きつけてループを組んでいることには拍手。凡庸なHipHopにはなっていない。でもマイルスを切り刻んで再構築することにかけてはTマセロの方が遥かに上手。残念がらマイルスの望むことを嗅ぎ分ける嗅覚はもちろん、時間も理解も足りなかったみたい。 もう少しマイルスに時間があったら全く異なる仕上がりになり、誰もがマイルスのオリジナル・タイトルと呼べるものになったでしょうね。

常に時代を先を行くミュージシャンと尊敬申し上げておりましたが、「ウィー・ウォント・マイルス」以降はジャケもいまいちな印象で触手が伸びる事はありませんでした。最終録音作と云うことで入手してみましたが、残念ながら革新性も驚きも感じ取る事が出来ず、ヒップホップのアルバムに客演した程度の印象しか残りませんでした。

本来の趣味がクラシック中心で、ジャズに造詣が深い訳ではありませんが、やはりマイルスはすごい。音の意味をよく知っていて、無意味な音を出してとりあえず空間を埋めていく、ということは一切しないので大好きです。中後期のコルトレーンのように気迫で出す音で空間と時間を埋め尽くしてしまうような演奏は、「一般人」としては音楽として受け入れがたいところがあります。しかし、マイルスのは抜群に「音」のセンスがよく、この点がクラシックファンであれ、ロックファンであれ、その音楽の素晴らしさがたちどころにわかる所以だと思います。それにしても、これで作品が打ち止めだというのは、本当に残念です。
