“Under Christian Thielemann’s baton, the Staatskapelle Dresden proved itself exceptionally qualified to master the work’s challenges. Christian Thielemann “conjured up the gigantic cosmos of the ‘Missa’ with such lightness and grace that its mystery seemed to reveal itself”. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

“Garanca’s voice has been described as “creamy”, “silken” and “lustrous” (her chest register is superbly produced)... what sets her apart, however, is the unteachable ability to send shivers down the spine.” Gramophone on a previous recording.

World-renown Beethoven specialist Christian Thielemann conducts Beethoven’s famous ‘Missa Solemnis’ at the stunning Semperoper Dresden. Performing with the Staatskapelle Dresden and the Chorus of the State Opera are Bulgarian Soprano Krassimira Stoyanova, who was awarded the title of ‘Kammersangerin’ by the Vienna State Opera in October 2009. Also on stage: celebrated Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Granaca, who is a frequent guest of the Vienna State Opera and the Salzburg Festival. Her international career has also taken her to Covent Garden, the Met and other prestigious stages. Furthermore: Canadian singer Michael Schade, who is considered one of the leading tenors of 18th and 19th century music, and German bass Franz-Josef Selig, a famous concert singer and one of the leading interpreters of the Wagnerian repertoire as well as of the Mozart bass-profondo parts.
