これはアルバムとしてとおして聴くのは初めてです。リミックス盤でサウンドがどう変わったか分からないのですが、きわめて上手くまとめられたバラード集です。まさに達郎氏の自家薬篭中の物としてのサウンド、アレンジの一枚です。メロディー、君の為に　などはsong for the asking を思わせるヒューマニズムが感じられます。これだけ隅々まできっちりと作られているにもかかわらず、一部の歌詞は首を傾げるほど深みがありません。曲が重くなってしまうからあまり凝った詩をつけるのを避けているのかもしれないのですが、出来ればもうワンランクのアップが欲しいと思います。

　熱心な達郎ファンからの評価は二分されているようですが、シングルＣＤのカップリングや企画ものとして限定リリースされた隠れた名曲が集められていて、個人的には”もう一つのベスト盤”として楽しんでします。　どの曲も、手を抜くことのない達郎さんの音楽に対する直向きな姿勢がにじみ出ていて、決して落ち穂拾いされたジャンク品ではない、質の高さを感じます。本来ならオリジナル・アルバムの重要なピースになっていても不思議ではないクオリティーを持ちながら、タイミングが合わずに選に漏れ、屋根裏部屋にひっそりと佇むこととなった不運な楽曲もあったりして、こうした形で表舞台に出されたことに対しては素直に賛辞を贈りたいと思います。　全体的に”夏”というよりも”朝”をイメージさせる楽曲が多く、メジャー・アルバム収録作品とは違ったサムシング・ニューっぽさがあって、テーマを決めてオムニバスに編集する自作のコンピレーションにはもってこいのアイテムが揃っています。
