If you don't listen closely, you might miss the spiritual messages contained in Stacie Orrico's lyrics on GENUINE. These frothy, percolating tracks are ostensibly full of dance-pop/R&B a la Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc. Orrico certainly looks the part, as her youthful beauty could easily inspire countless posters adorning teenage bedroom walls. However, a careful inspection reveals Orrico's larger purpose.
Throughout GENUINE, she sings of faith and spirituality in no uncertain terms. Her praise of the Lord is expressed quite clearly; but her vocal delivery and the carefully crafted arrangements make these sentiments go down so smoothly that the listener can choose to either take their meaning to heart or just enjoy them as pure pop confections.
