19世紀ヨーロッパのとある小さな村。ビクトリアとの結婚を間近に控えた青年ビクターは、ある日森の中で地面から突き出ている人の指のような棒きれを発見する。

彼は本番の練習のつもりでその棒に結婚指輪をはめ、誓いの言葉を述べるのだった。ところがそれは本物の人骨で、突然地面から花嫁衣装を着た白骨化した女性が現われるのだった。彼女はこの世に未練を残し亡くなった花嫁で、ビクターの言葉を真に受けて、死者の世界から舞い戻ってきてしまったのだった。

そして恐れおののくビクターを強引に死者の世界へと連れ去ってしまうのだったが…。
