Dutty Rock

The achievements of producer Jeremy Harding in ? and for - the international dancehall scene are every bit as vital, say, the good works done for international R'n'B by the likes of Irv Gotti and P Diddy. This, after all, is the man that gave the world Beenie Man's 'Who Am I?'. During Harding's march to the top he's always been accompanied by a deejay that he regarded as both a raw talent and a star-in-waiting. That deejay was Sean Paul and, six years on from the Harding-producedsmash 'Baby Girl', Paul has gatecrashed the global pop charts with the 'Gimme the Light' single. 'Dutty Rock' is the album behind said track and, such was Sean's chart impact, that the set's been picked up by major label Atlantic and released in tandem with the VP imprint, long-time home of dancehall greats.
'Dutty Rock' is twenty-first century dancehall at it's most playful as Sean Paul peppers the album with tales of super-indulgence, goodtime gyalrelationships and hazy, lazy weed anecdotes. Dancehall fanatic Busta Rhymes roams all over a 'Gimme the Light' remix to rumbustious effect whilst a couple of Sean's more recent J.A. hits figure in the shape of 'Can You Do the Work' (with Ce'Cile), 'Like Glue' and more. The Roots' Rahzel adds beat-box bounce to 'Top of the Game' and ? get this ? all the skits are genuinely funny. This is the album that should open the floodgates for dancehall worldwide.
