このアルバムには、バルビローリの指揮する...

このアルバムには、バルビローリの指揮する、エルガーの「エレジー」と、「溜め息」が、入っている。それだけでも、聴く価値のある名演奏、名曲です。小品だけれど、題名通りの、悲しい、憂いに満ちた曲です。生きて行く事は、た易いものではありませぬ。非、理不尽、不安。でも、その気持ちを持ち、生きて行かねばならぬし、こんな素晴らしい音楽を作ってくれる人もいる。それだけでも、生きて行こう、生きていて良かったと、思わせてくれる名作です。

あれ、ディーリアスが入ってる。というだけで購入。「アパラチア」とのカップリングが理想ですが、この名盤の最後に「ブリッグの市」というのもバルビ心を擽られますね。アンサンブルがどうの、縦線がどうの･･･意味ないことです。ただ、バルビ節に酔いしれるだけ、そういうアルバムですよ、これは。

バルビローリの数ある録音の中で、どれかひとつ選ぶとしたら、私の場合はこれです。更に言えば、これはエルガーを聞くアルバム。「序奏とアレグロ」の熱い歌から圧倒されます。また、たった5分の小品「ソスピリ」は何度聞いても泣けます。同じ曲をガーディナーやA・デイヴィスと比べれば、バルビローリがいまだにこれほど愛され続けられる理由もわかるというものです。
