　中学校のときLPを買い胸に抱いて帰って以来３５年、CDはリマスターが出るたび買増しこのアルバムの音楽には魅了されてきたが今回の記念盤には魅力を感じない。 　できれば２＆マルチでSACD化して欲しいのだが、最初はこのグループならSACD化されると思っていたがなぜしないのか不思議だ。

4月27日の日経新聞文化欄、邦題の生みの親である石川氏が述べてるが、大震災後にタイトル曲のリクエストが相次いでいる。40年以上の時を経ても、歌が持つ素晴らしい力が、この曲に、このアルバムに凝縮されている。 Live1969で初めてお披露目された際、どんな曲なんだ？という反応が 、歌い終わった瞬間喝采となったのが興味深い。ドキュメンタリーDVDに80ページの日本語ブックレット、完成度の高い記念盤に感謝の気持ちだ・・・。

タイトル曲のM1は、正に人生の応援歌。世紀は移り、このたびの震災で疲弊した人々にとっての励ましの歌となることは間違いない。４０周年記念盤の発売と奇しくもタイミングは重なってしまったが、厳粛な気持ちで改めてこの名盤に接したい。その他の曲も名曲ぞろいで、ポール・サイモンのソングライター魂が爆発している。アルバム全体に目を移すと、ポールとアートがそれぞれソロでヴォーカルをとっている曲が多く、デュオとしての別離を告げているのも特徴である。あと、傑作ではあるが決してコンセプト・アルバムではないことも追記しておく。
