ビートルズの1962 - 1966年のヒットを集めたベスト盤で、通称「赤盤」でした。 当時のお金に余裕がない中学生にはなかなか2枚組はハードルが高いのと、いずれオリジナルを買うときにダブってしまうのが嫌で、とうとう買わずじまいでした。 （後日、子供がビートルズを聴いたことがないと聞いて、赤盤青盤をプレゼントしましたが）。 デビューの「ラヴ・ミー・ドゥ(モノラルです！）」から「イエローサブマリン」までわりと聴きやすい入門盤。

兄貴に最初に青盤を買って貰って、赤盤も欲しいとせがんだら買ってくれた。うれしかった。青盤に較べて曲数が多いのに収録時間が短く、ちょっとがっかりした記憶がある。（小学校６年）。ベストアルバムが多種類出ているが、これが原点と思っている。それだけ、この曲目、曲順に思い入れが強い。

ビートルズの前期ベスト盤です。個人的には、アルバムで言うとHelp〜Sgt.あたりの楽曲が好きなので、2枚目が特に好きです。Rubber Soulの楽曲が充実している一方、Revolverからの楽曲が少ないですね。2枚合わせて1時間ちょいの長さなので、4，5曲増やして1枚にまとめて欲しい思いもあります。
