2010年4月12日に70歳の誕生日を迎えたハービー・ハンコック。『ザ・イマジン・プロジェクト』と題された本作は、「平和と地球規模の責任」をアルバム・コンセプトとして、音楽ジャンルにとらわれない視点から人選されたミュージシャン(Seal、P!nk、ジョン・レジェンド、ジェフ・ベック、デイヴ・マシューズ、デレク・トラックス、チャカ・カーン、チーフタンズなど)が参加し、世界各地でレコーディングと映像のプロジェクトが同時に行われました。

アルバムの監修にはラリー・クラインが、また映像監修にはアカデミー賞長編ドキュメンタリー賞受賞監督のアレックス・ギブニーが参画。
