ロック・オペラ『トミー』で、ロック界で不動の位置を占める事となったザ・フーが翌1970年に発表した名盤の誉れ高いライヴ作。筆者を含めアナログ時代からの多くのファンは本作の現行版『２５周年エディション』を聴いてショックを受けたはず―オリジナルＬＰは僅か６曲（曲自体は長いが）しか入っていなかったのだから。新装版では「アイ・キャント・エクスプレイン」や「ハッピー・ジャック」、「アイム・ア・ボーイ」なんて所まで入ってる！　コレは名作と言われてＬＰ買ってみたものの、エライ音の悪かった当時以上のショックだ。ハード・ロックの原点としてのフーの姿を捉えた作品。

僕のロックの原点がこのザ・フー。１９６９年当時映画ウッドストックを見てフーを知り、すぐ購入したＬＰレコードがこのライブアットリーズでした。サマータイムブルースはもちろん、ヤングマンブルースにはブッ飛びましたね。それから４０年近くたったいまでも彼らの曲を聴いています。中学生だった当時の青春が蘇るな〜。

ジョン最高！ 個人的には９曲目以降が特に良いと思う。２１世紀の現在でもこのアルバムに匹敵するライブ盤はそうは無いだろう。
