トム・ストールと妻エディは２人の子供たちと静かで幸せな生活を送っていた。だがある夜、トムの営むダイナーが強盗に襲われる。突然銃を突き付けられ、危険を察知したトムは一瞬の隙をつき強盗を射殺。一夜にしてヒーローとしてメディアに取り上げられた。そんなある日、フォガティと名乗る男が出現。トムを“ジョーイ”と呼び、その日から一家を執拗に追い回す。フォガティの不気味な言動により不安に駆られる妻エディ。“なぜ、あんなにも人を殺すのがうまいのか聞いてみろ”そして家族に危険が迫った時、見事なまでの殺人テクニックを繰り広げるトムの正体が、ついに明らかになっていく。
