He learned soul from the church; and singing gospel allowed the Detroit native the opportunity to show emotion through his talent. However, not convinced Gospel was his calling, Eric fought through the discouragement of his peers in the church and began exploring secular music. Armed with a gift for love-letter writing, Eric relocated to Atlanta to pursue his dreams. He wrote lyrics for the ladies and found temporary interest as a solo act. But with labels using physical standards as an excuse to ignore his phenomenal talent, his dreams of being a solo act did not come easily.
